Summer activities
Interpretative hikes, campfire programs and family oriented activities are planned during the summer months. These free activities vary weekly and are posted on forest bulletin boards and at the forest office.

Frozen Sasquatch 25K & 50K Run

Meet at Swimming Pool Building.  Starts at 8:00am with an 8 hour time limit. $

14th Annual – Winter Walk

Saturday, January 9, 2:00 P.M.
Join Doug Wood for a fun and interpretive walk in the winter woods.
Meet at Johnson Hollow, Shelter #5 at 2 P.M. (through the Forest—on the left)
Enjoy a Cozy Fire, Hot Drinks, and Snacks!
Dress according to weather, especially footwear!
Free to All — Donations Appreciated!

WV Senior Sports Classic
Kanawha State Forest

The WV Senior Sports Classic is a 5K Run and a 10K Bike Race.  The run will start at the shelter at the entrance to the pool go to the park entrance and end at the pool. The bike race will continue past the pool past the campground and start up the next hill for 10K.  Further details and pre-registration form will be posted here as available.

Meet at Shelter #9.  This Ultra Run will challenge your physical endurance as you experience a variety of trails in Kanawha State Forest.  Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. $

Women In The Outdoors

Shelters 3,4,5,6 & 7.  This event is aimed at women ages 14 and older that want the opportunity to learn outdoor activities with hands-on experience. There is a fee for this event.  This is a Partnership project between the WV State Chapter of NWTF and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.  $

Black Bear 40K Mountain Bike Race

This race is open to all levels of Mountain Bike Riders, from beginners to expert.
The route will take you through some of the most challenging terrain in the Kanawha Valley.  Come experience the ultimate in Mountain Bike Races.  $

Margaret Denison Fall Nature Walk
Kanawha State Forest

Registration 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at pool area.  The registration fee is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children under 16.  Walks will be from 9:30 a.m. until approximately 12:30.  Guided wildflower walks on various trails throughout the forest.  Specific hikes include: fall wildflowers, fungi, pond/aquatic life, birds, trees and nature photography.  Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about nature.  $
